VHS student earns awards

The designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of exceptional achievement on the Advanced Placement Program Exam has been earned by Sam Courtenay, a current senior at VHS. Advanced Placement offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school and receive college credit.  Sam has completed 3 AP courses while at VHS and hopes to complete two more in the 2008-2009 academic year.

In addition to the AP Scholar designation Sam is also a 2008 Georgia Certificate of Merit Recipient. Students earning this award must be ranked in the top 5 percent of their class and join an elite group of approximately 4000 high school students chosen to receive one of the most prestigious academic awards in the southern US.  In addition Sam was an alternate for Georgia Governor's Honors Program and a member of 2008 Georgia Boy's State. 

Sam recently returned from Scholar Visitation Day at the University of Georgia. This is a special, invitation-only, program for select high school students.  Only students who may be competitive for admission to UGA's nationally recognized Honors program are invited. Sam plans to attend the UGA Fall of 2009.
