VMS Eighth Grade Symphonic Band announces winter concert
The Valdosta Middle School 8th Grade Symphonic Band will be performing their winter concert Thursday evening, November 20th, at 7pm in the Valdosta High School Performing Arts Center. The VMS Symphonic Band was recently selected to perform at this year’s Southeastern United States Middle School Band Clinic held at Troy University in Troy, Alabama on December 5th, 2008. The winter concert on Thursday will include all the musical selections that will be performed at the clinic in December. Everyone is invited to attend and admission is free.
Only two middle school bands from the south are selected each year to give guest performances for this prestigious event. Under directors Gary Bradley and Travis Downs, band members have been working since the beginning of the school year in preparation for the concert. They’ve had countless hours of after school practices and have had guest clinicians working closely with the students.
The band will travel to Troy, Alabama on December 4th and attend the Troy University Symphony Band “Sounds of the Season” concert and get an opportunity to have dinner with several music faculty members from Troy University. The VMS Band students will then give their featured performance, Thursday morning at 9:40 a.m., in the Claudia Crosby Theatre in Smith Hall for several hundred middle school students, parents, and band directors from throughout the southeast attending the event.
